Jornalista Ucraniano Dmitry Vasilets manifesta gratidão ao Eurodeputado Marinho e Pinto

/ / Noticias Internacionais

I am not in prison any more, but am free at home”.

A letter of sincere gratitude!

Hello. My name is Dmitry Vasilets, I am a Ukrainian journalist, and I was kept along with my colleague Evgeny Timonin in prison for 820 days for my journalistic projects, since 24.11.2015.

Our case became very resonant, as it was obvious to everyone that the case was political and fabricated, with an absurd accusation (allegedly we created a YouTube channel for separatists), and the main reason for our arrest was the desire of the authorities to intimidate the entire journalistic community in Ukraine and clearly show using our example what will happen to those journalists who dare to criticise the authorities.

There are a lot of videos and articles on the Internet about our trial, here are a few of them:

It is largely thanks to you that I have been on house arrest since 21.02.2018.

I was released from prison by the decision of the Kiev Court of Appeal, and although the fabricated case against us has not yet been closed, now there is confidence that we will nevertheless be able to achieve justice and obtain a final verdict of acquittal.

This became possible largely thanks to precisely your support, as you signed an appeal to President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko with a demand to release political prisoners – namely me, Dmitry Vasilets, as well as Evgeny Timonin and Vasily Muravitsky. Here’s your letter:

As a result, I am now not in prison any more, but am free at home, and I want to sincerely thank that you for not being indifferent when in Ukraine we were mocked in prison and during court sessions, you weren’t indifferent when there was such obvious political repression against all dissenters in Ukraine, you were indifferent to the fact that in Ukraine such a concept as “freedom of speech” was eliminated. You found in yourself the strength and courage to sign this letter to our President and bring him to his senses, for which I am immensely and sincerely grateful, and also in many respects owe you for my freedom. If it weren’t for you, I’d probably still be in prison!

Thank you, António MARINHO E PINTO and your team, for finding the time and being able to examine our case, and for understanding that the case against us was fabricated and coming out in our defence!

I express my deep appreciation and gratitude, I wish you good health, success in everything, and good luck! THANK YOU once again!

Yours sincerely,

Dmitry Vasilets
